# Help Patrons Find More of Your Library's Online Resources with the A-Z Resource Page

[October 13, 2026](https://blog.bibliocommons.com/blog/public-library-az-online-resource-page)

Public libraries invest heavily in online resources: research databases, language-learning tools, streaming platforms, homework help, tutoring services. The list keeps growing, and so does the cost of licensing it all. That investment pays off when patrons can find and use those resources.

That's what the upgraded Online Resource A-Z page in [BiblioWeb](https://bibliocommons.com/solutions/biblioweb) is built to do. It brings every online resource a library offers into one directory, organized so patrons can get to what they need and notice what else is available.

## Why the A-Z Page Matters

At its simplest, an A-Z page gets patrons to a resource quickly. But because it's one of the busiest page types on a library's website, it should be able to do more than that.

Patrons already come to this page looking for resources, so it's worth making the most of every visit. That means doing a few things well:

1. **Fast, relevant search** for patrons who know what they want
2. **Easy browsing** for patrons who want to see what's available
3. **Clear information at a glance**, so patrons know what a resource offers before they click
4. **Built-in discovery**, so patrons find related resources they didn't know to look for
5. **Simple link sharing**, so chat and email reference staff can send patrons exactly the right resource(s)

## How the BiblioWeb A-Z Page Works

As a website platform made for public libraries, BiblioWeb builds the A-Z page automatically from each library's online resources. Staff can adjust a few settings, like labels and which filters appear, but the page does most of the work on its own.

The upgraded page, now available to all BiblioWeb libraries, adds search, filters for browsing, and more. Here's how each feature helps.

![Screenshot of the top of the BiblioWeb A-Z Resources page with four callouts. They point to the For Kids and For Teens links, the search bar, the Subject, Format, eLearning, and App Availability drop-down filters, and the A to Z letter filter.](https://blog.bibliocommons.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/Blog%20Posts/2026-10-08%20A-Z%20Resource%20Page/Blog%20Image%20%20A-Z%20Page%20Search%20Bar.png?width=700&height=206&name=Blog%20Image%20%20A-Z%20Page%20Search%20Bar.png)

*The top of the BiblioWeb A-Z online resources page, with callouts for the Kids and Teens links, search bar, filters, and A to Z letter bar.*

### Fast, Relevant Search

Patrons who know what they're looking for, exactly or roughly, can use the search bar. Search covers each resource's title, description, and URL, and results are ranked by relevance.

Filters for subject, format, eLearning type (such as online courses or test prep), and app availability (Apple, Google, Amazon) help patrons narrow things down, with or without a search.

After the search bar was added to our Preview Partner library websites, patrons quickly put it to use, particularly on mobile. Up to 1 in 5 mobile visitors used search to find what they were looking for, compared with 8-10% of desktop visitors. That matters because it gives patrons another way to navigate long lists when scrolling may be less convenient, while still preserving browsing for those who prefer to explore. Together, the results show the value of supporting both behaviors rather than asking patrons to navigate content in just one way.

### Easy Browsing

Not every patron arrives knowing what they want. Some want to see what the library offers before they decide, and the A-Z page gives them room to do that. Because every online resource sits in one directory, patrons can scan the list alphabetically and jump straight to any letter that has resources. It's an easy way to come across the language-learning tool or the homework help service they didn't know their library had, without hunting through menus or separate pages on the website.

Libraries can also offer dedicated Kids and Teens pages. Each one fills automatically from the applicable kids and teen taxonomies already applied to your resources in BiblioWeb, so there's no separate list for staff to build or maintain. Parents and caregivers land on a page of resources made for their children, instead of sorting through databases written for adults. Teens get a shorter list of what's meant for them, with homework help and test prep a click away.

### Clear Information

Every listed resource shows what a patron needs to know before clicking through: whether a library card is required, whether it's available only in the library or at a specific location, which apps it's available on, and whether it's new or featured. Short descriptions with a ‘Read More’ link keep the page easy to scan without hiding details.

![Example resource card on the BiblioWeb A-Z page for Art Index Retrospective. It shows a title, a description cut off with a Read more link, a share icon, and clickable subject labels: Art and Architecture, Art Periodical Indexes, and Indexes.](https://blog.bibliocommons.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/Blog%20Posts/2026-10-08%20A-Z%20Resource%20Page/AZResource.png?width=700&height=181&name=AZResource.png)

*A resource card for Art Index Retrospective with a short description, share icon, and clickable subject labels.*

### Built-In Discovery

The A-Z page also provides pathways to discover more resources. Each resource shows all the terms applied to it. Clicking a label filters the page to every resource with that label, so patrons can follow a topic across the library's online resources in a single click.

Libraries looking to promote resources can also use ‘New’ and ‘Featured’ labels to highlight resources as patrons scroll.

![Screenshot of the BiblioWeb A-Z page showing two results for the search “mango languages,” each with a description, subject labels, a Library Card Required note, app store badges, and a share icon.](https://blog.bibliocommons.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/Blog%20Posts/2026-10-08%20A-Z%20Resource%20Page/AZSearch.png?width=700&height=553&name=AZSearch.png)

*A-Z page search results for “mango languages,” showing descriptions, subject labels, a library card note, a 'New' label on the Mango Languages: American Sign Language result, and app badges.*

### Simple Sharing

Every URL is persistent. When staff apply a filter or run a search, the URL captures that view. For example, the view from the “Mango Languages” search (in the image above) can be shared via this URL: [https://www.krl.org/resource/?search=mango+languages](https://www.krl.org/resource/?search=mango+languages)

Each resource also has a share link. When a patron opens it, the page scrolls to that resource, highlights it, and opens its full description. For staff helping patrons over chat or email, that means one link that points to exactly the right resource, with related options still in view, all while staying within the A-Z directory page. ([Click here to see how it works](https://chpl.org/resource/#new-york-times-online).)

## What This Means for Libraries and Patrons

For patrons, a library's full collection of online resources becomes something they can explore: search for what they already know they want, filter by what interests them, or browse from A to Z until something catches their eye.

For libraries, the A-Z page provides more ways to get patrons to the right resource(s). Libraries can also see what patrons search for on the page in [Google Analytics 4](https://resources.bibliocommons.com/webinar-bibliocommons-analytics-platform-and-ga4), which is a useful signal of what their community is looking for.

Libraries put real budget and care into choosing the databases, tools, and platforms their communities rely on. Your library’s online resources can only make an impact if patrons know they’re there and can find them when they need them. A better A-Z experience helps connect more patrons with the resources their library has already invested in. And when those resources are easier to find, explore, and share, libraries have a better chance of seeing them become part of how their communities learn, study, and explore.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What is the public library A-Z resource page?

A public library A-Z resource page is a directory of all the online resources a library offers, such as research databases, eBook platforms, language-learning tools and homework help, listed alphabetically in one place.

An A-Z page makes it easier for patrons to find specific resources, and should also be set up to help them discover more library resources.

### **How can a public library A-Z resource page help patrons discover more library resources?**

A library online resources page helps patrons discover more library resources by allowing patrons to search, filter by subject or format, and browse alphabetically. The A-Z page should also offer discovery pathways, such as clickable subject labels on resources (so patrons can see more resources related to that topic). The BiblioWeb A-Z Online Resource Page offers all of this functionality, and more.

### **How can public libraries make their online resources and databases easier to find?**

One way that public libraries can make online resources easier to find is by making them available via one directory that patrons can search and filter. Each resource listed in the database should explain what it offers and include key details, such as whether a library card is required.

### **How does the BiblioWeb A-Z page work?**

BiblioWeb builds the A-Z page automatically from the online resources and categories a library already manages on its website. The page fills in the search, filters, and resource details on its own, and staff can adjust settings like the page title and filter labels. It's one example of how BiblioWeb, a website platform built for public libraries, handles library-specific content out of the box. On a general-purpose website platform, a page like this would otherwise be a custom build that takes time, budget, and development skills (both to build and to maintain). With BiblioWeb, staff manage their resources in one place, and the page does the rest.

### **Does BiblioWeb have separate online resource pages for kids and teens?**

Yes, BiblioWeb libraries can offer dedicated Kids and Teens A-Z pages. These fill automatically from the kids and teen subject categories already applied to each resource, so young patrons and families can go straight to resources available to them.

### **Can libraries see what patrons search for on the A-Z page?**

Yes, libraries can see search terms entered in their A-Z page search bar. When a patron searches the BiblioWeb A-Z page, BiblioWeb sends the search terms to the library's Google Analytics 4 account. Staff can review them to learn what their community is looking for, such as which resources and topics come up most. That can guide what to feature, how to label resources so they're easier to find, and which ones to renew or add.
